Bottom-placed Kotoku Royals couldn’t survive at the Baba Yara sports Stadium as Asante Kotoko hit 5goals past them. Former Asante Kotoko striker Francis Andy Kumi got the consolation goal for Oda Kotoku Royals whilst Steven Mukwala 2x, Eric Zeze Serge, Richmond Lamptey, and Solomon Sarfo Taylor got the goals for the defending league champions.
Asante Kotoko started the game with some exciting football in the opening stages and it earn them the opening goal through Richmond Lamptey after a lovely one-touch pass between Zeze and Mfegue to set up Lamptey who placed to break the deadlock in the 10th minute of the game. In the 22nd minute, Steven Dese Mukwala won himself a penalty and converted it expertly to make it 2-0 for the porcupine warriors. Former Kotoko striker, Andy Kumi pulled one back for Kotoku royals in the 28th minute to make it 2-1 before halftime.
Back from recess, Kotoko continue to control the game and scored their 3rd goal of the game through the Ugandan forward to bag his second brace for the porcupine warriors at the hour mark of the game. Kotoko continued dominating possession and for the 4th goal with just 9 minutes to the end of regulation time through the Ivorian Serge Zeze Eric. 90TH-minute substitute, Sarfo Taylor put the icing on the cake for the porcupine warriors to complete the demolishing of the defending league champions.
Following the win, Asante Kotoko moves to the 2nd position with 24 points and whiles Kotoku royals remain bottom of the league with 7pts.
Both teams will return to mid-week action where Kotoko will play as the quest to Karela United at the CAM park whilst Kotoku royals return to the Cape Coast stadium to face inform Bibiabi Goldstars.
